Peace Corps Update

We've been nominated!

Note: A nomination is a tentative match to project in a general region of the world, and a recommendation by your recruiter that your application be given further consideration. No country-specific information is available at this time. Your file will be forwarded to the Placement Unit in Washington DC where further reviews take place before you will be invited to a country specific assignment.

Based on this nomination, here is what we know about our potential assignment:

  • Going to Eastern Europe, leaving in March 2010.
  • Michele working on a community development assignment with some NGO (non-governmental organization) development built in.
  • Richie teaching English, and needing to gain some additional volunteer experience between now and the time of departure.

So, what's next?

  • Medical Clearance - to make sure we are healthy enough to travel overseas.
  • Legal Clearance - to make sure we're not criminals.

After we get the "A-Okay," we are given a Placement & Invitation. (Basically, confirming the country and program, then telling them "Yes, we'd love to!")

We've learned that an orientation is held in a U.S. city 3 days before we depart to our host country. We'll meet other trainees who will be serving with us in the same country, and be briefed regarding safety and security information. After orientation, we'll travel, as a group, to our host country.

THIS IS VERY EXCITING NEWS FOR US!!!!

As soon as we hear something - we'll let you know!

Received your hard-copy letters from the Peace Corps. I had left a message on your voice mail about them.

Eastern Europe? Must have found out about that Polish ancestry.
