Friday, February 27th - Departure Day!

We woke up to an empty house and the feeling of closure.

It's breakfast for us at Streamliner Diner where we have a shared order of the ABCT omelette (Avocado, bacon, cheese and tomato), a waffle, and 2 cups of coffee - - hmmmm!

We headed back home for the final round of cleaning, then enjoyed the sunshine, waited for St. Vincent DePaul to pick up the large pieces of furniture we weren't able to sell, and hung out with our neighbors Tom and Holly.

Cool Story time!

Blanche, our neighbor, about a week ago had had a brunch with her, lovingly called, "Ferry Pod" friends (about 7 ladies who commute daily on the Bainbridge to Seattle ferry). After their meal, they came over to our house to pick through our leftover belongings. Marlene, quite the character, was interested in the bed base Richie built last year. She said she'd think about it and be in touch. We hadn't heard from her all week and figured she wasn't interested in the bed.

The good news was St. Vincent DePaul was coming by between 9am and 4:30pm to pick it up, along with the orange retro restaurant booth. (Sounds like the plumber or TV company who promises to come by sometime today between 8am and 5pm.)

We were loading up the car, and suddenly this large SUV pulled up to our condo. This lady rolled down the window and said "Guess you weren't expecting me!" It was Marlene! It was perfect timing on her part because St. Vincent DePaul arrived not 30 minutes after she stopped by! Marlene looked at me and asked - "What would Blanche say about all of this, eh?!?!" I replied "Providence!"

We loaded the car, did one last walk through the condo, and at 1:30pm we locked Unit B5 for the last time.

Mileage on the car: 32,045

On our way off the island, we stopped at Blackbird Bakery for one last coffee beverage - I had a 12 oz. double non-fat latte, no foam and Richie had a tall double Americano with room. Okay, okay - we also had 2 pastries - a cinnamon roll and an apple streussel muffin - GUILTY.

At 2:15pm, we crossed the Agate Pass Bridge off Bainbridge Island.

People laugh when they hear that our first stop on the road trip is Tacoma - but heh! - you've gotta get out of Washington somehow, right? Well, we had to spend some time with our good friend, Heidi. It was dinner at Duke's Restaurant, where we shared a Cucumber Mojito, and chowed on Northwest seafood and clam chowder.

Nice purple band-aid, Aunt Heidi!

And we had to get our puppy dog fix. Thanks, Mr. Joey!

Hey dearest explorer friends.....it is Wednesday March 11th and I am at BYS missing Michele's great humor and Richie's calm nature as I want to bitch about grown-ups pissing and moaning related to 'parking' spaces in a gravel lot outsite the High School....its freaking gravel, but little did I know someone put some numbers somewhere between the little rocks and I have #93:)Love you two and think of you often!!! You posted this forever ago..or so it seems! Tacoma is a great place to go through, wonder why I would say that! I haven't been to BYS since your last day Michele. But I did go by it because I was around there and was thinking, "I can go say hi to Michele!" then realized, "Wait..shes not there anymore..." and that's just plain sad! Hope you and Mr. Richie are having fun!!
