Grass Farms and A Gold Statue

We decided to relax a bit on Tuesday and travel south to Salem. On our way, we passed a sod farm - really - a place where they grow grass and sell it!

We also passed the 45th Parallell, which was kind of cool, too.

We were greeted in Salem by the most unusual state capital building I've ever seen, but the grounds were enchanting and the sculptures somewhat hysterical!

Doesn't it look like Sacagawea is about to slap the horse?

We had lunch at a small cafe called the Wild Pear, quite tasty, and walked the waterfront of the Willamette River.

And now, we are all the way on the Oregon coast at Beachside State Park, away from the snow!

We spotted this cut-out off on our way to the coast. Funny, funny!

We were hoping to approach Crater Lake through the Cascades, but we finally checked ALL road conditions - and everything in the Cascades is covered in snow. We don't want to relive the fearful snow road again. Tomorrow we'll continue to travel south on the coast and head east to Crater Lake via highway 62 - which we know is plowed in the winter - and is safe to drive on.

I was telling Richie today that I am really looking forward to some sunshine. You'd think that as we travel south, we'd see some sun or feel some warmth. We'll get there soon, I hope... but I'm ready for it now!
