Almost to Crater Lake!

We traveled from Beachside State Park on Highway 101 and hopped on I-5 to Sutherlan, OR, and we are now at Joseph H. Stewart Sate Park, 50 miles southwest of Crater Lake in Oregon.

It's currently 12:22pm and almost 60 degrees - a stark contrast to the 9 degrees we read about at Crater Lake at lunchtime.

Current mileage for Sally the Subaru: 33,333 miles

On our drive here, we could see Mt. McLoughlin (9,495 feet). We also had about 5 minutes of cellphone coverage while in Grants Pass, and suspect we won't have it again for the next day or two.

For dinner tonight: Butternut Squash soup, a red bellpepper, and a slice of garlic and 3 cheese bread!

Funny thing... every picnic bench in the park is tilted to one side on concrete blocks. Richie is contemplating taking all the tables and making a fort. I think he's spent way too much time in the passenger's seat today.

Tonight is the first night the sky is clear. We've decided to take our sleeping bags out of the tent, wrap-up in them, and lie on the picnic table to watch the stars for a few hours. The moon is full, so we can only see the brightest stars (constellations spotted: Orion, The Big Dipper, Gemini, and Pleides) and a few satellites.

Tomorrow, we'll bike the 12-mile loop around the park then head to Crater Lake. The weather should be clear, so we can't wait!

HI GUYS,

I subscribe to Budget Traveler and in the front of each edition they have hints from other travelers...

I thought of you when I read that Cracker Barrel restaurants have audio books that you can borrow/rent. You pay $10 for the first rental and then the rest are free. You can pick up an audio book at any location (kansas) and return it to another (missouri) when you are done.

think about you daily!
