Salty Seashore

On Saturday morning, we woke up early and decided to pack up and head out early, too.

We headed south on Highway 1 through the 10-mile community known as The Sea Ranch.
Their philosophy is to "live lightly on the land."

It's an interesting concept.

There are over 1700 homes designed to fit into the surrounding landscape.

None of the homes are painted. There are no manicured yards, no fences between homes, no streetlights, sidewalks or mailboxes.

With spring break and Easter holidays, we've been arriving at campgrounds early to claim a spot for the night. So, we headed to Salt Point State Park to set-up camp, then headed to Kruse Rhododendron State Natural Reserve to hike Chinese and Phillips Gulch (formerly a ranch full of Rhododendrons and other exotic plants).

Having the comfort of our home already set-up, we decided to travel some back roads through the hills with no real agenda other than to enjoy the scenery and sunshine.

We drove through the microscopic town of Plantation - which has a horse riding camp for kids and families. We also passed cow pastures and construction.

Back at Salt Point State Park, we road our bikes down to the Salt Point Trail hoping to bike the trail. The trail ended up being a little too rough to bike, so we locked them up and walked the coast instead.

Okay, I'm really embarrassed...

Tonight, I cooked my first terrible camp stove dinner.
We purchased some precooked Polenta roll. The directions on the back say you can pan fry it. Yeah, not so much!

My plan was to cut the roll into 1/2 inch thick pieces, pan "fry" them, and place a tomato sauce on top with cheese.

I didn't even take a picture of it because it was really, really gross. You have my word to never cook it again!
