A Rest Stop at Point Montara Lighthouse

What's great about hostels is they are unique structures. Point Montara Hostel is actually an old lighthouse with a newly discovered history.

Read all about it here.

And it is still operating as a navigational tool for mariners!

We are sleeping in the Fog Building's Tool room - don't worry, it's been converted to a cute 3-bunk bed room. It's a bit drafty with it's original windows and the heater is broken, but we are quite cozy with the pile of army surplus blankets provided... I'm using three.

Just outside of our room is another large room often rented out for meetings or yoga classes. We are regularly greeted by this massive dragon - with wings made of black trash bags, flexible tubing for a tail, and PVC teeth. We never asked why he's dangling from the rafters... perhaps he was part of a haunted house - or a prop in a play.

The wind is pretty fierce out here - probably 30-40 mph winds. We are about 20 feet from the ocean perched on 70 foot cliffs. I haven't gotten use to the banging of the hinge on the broken gate just outside our room... but somehow the creeks of this old building are soothing.

We've been traveling non-stop for almost 7 weeks.
We are having a great time, but it is time to rest for a few days.
I feel guilty for taking a rest day. Afterall, we are on an adventure of a lifetime - we should seize every moment.

Just noticed your new postings! It sounds as if you all are still having a great time. I was glad to hear that you all took a few days of simple rest--Don't get so busy seeing everything and forget that your bodies need some rest days. Our love to you both; will talk with you soon, I hope.
